Catholic Education - A Shared Responsibility
Our Catholic schools have a proud tradition in providing a quality education for the students of our faith community and others. This education promotes the formation of the whole person, embracing the intellectual, physical, emotional, and especially the spiritual dimension of human growth. As Superintendent of Schools it is my pleasure to introduce you to the principals, teachers, parents, parent support groups, students, pastors and other supporters of Catholic education who work so diligently to preserve and nurture this tradition.

The work of Catholic education in the Nelson Diocese is very much a shared responsibility. Parents are recognized as having the first responsibility for the education and Christian formation of their children. At the same time, parents have a right to the Church's help with this critical undertaking. The faith community also plays an important supportive role in assisting parents in their duties as educators. And the school itself, called to be a faith community, addresses the primary goal of a Christ-centred education by integrating God, His Truth and His Life into all facets of school life and by infusing the Spirit of Jesus Christ into the scholastic curriculum. The graduates of our Catholic school enter this ever-changing society well informed and well rooted in their Christian faith.

In addition to the council members who play an important part in the governance of our schools, other parents and members of the community are invited to become involved in the life of the school as a member of the school's parent support group. These groups of dedicated volunteers give unselfishly of their time and talents in helping with the work of our Catholic schools.

Providing the best Catholic education possible for our children and young adults requires the committed collaboration of all members of our faith community in the different capacities in which they serve.
